＜Points＞
★Bihoro Pass: A mountain pass along National Route 243 on the border between Teshikaga Town and Bihoro Town. From the observation deck at an altitude of 525m, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lake Kussharo, with its gaping Nakajima floating in the air. If the weather is good, you can see Mt. Io, Mt. Shari, and Mt. Tokachi, and enjoy a panoramic view that is said to be ``the most spectacular view in the world.''
★Kotan no Yu: An open-air bath on the shore of Lake Kussharo. Kotan no Yu, known as a secret hot spring, is a stone bath facing a spacious lake. A large rock in the middle separates the men and women, but it is basically the same as mixed bathing. Therefore, it is OK to take a bath wearing a swimsuit or wrapping yourself in a towel. The water level in the bath is almost the same height as the lake level. In winter, swans float in front of you, making it feel like you are bathing with them. Also, at twilight, when the lake turns golden, it is breathtakingly beautiful.
★Sand bath: If you dig in the sand, you can instantly create an open-air bath. Sunayu is such an exciting and fun spot. Depending on your efforts, you can create an open-air bath of any size you like, so not only small children but even adults will feel like children digging in the sand. There are campgrounds and rest houses along the lake, and it is a lively spot year-round with tourists buying souvenirs and eating meals.
It is warm here due to the heat of the hot springs, so it is the only place that never freezes even during the coldest months. The winter scene of flocks of whooper swans that have migrated from Siberia resting together has become a typical feature of the sand baths.
